TMEDE Organizes the 2nd International Conference “Redefining the Future Horizons: Designing Tomorrow’s Sustainable Strategies”
Konstantinos Makedos:
“Sustainable strategies for tomorrow—focused on resilient infrastructure, drought management, and strong economic growth—take center stage in today’s public discourse.”
The Engineers and Public Works Contractors Fund (TMEDE) is organizing the 2nd International Conference titled “Redefining the Future Horizons: Designing Tomorrow’s Sustainable Strategies,” which will take place on 9–10 December at the building of the Bank of Greece Employees’ Association, located at 16 Sina Street in Athens. The event is held under the auspices of the Bank of Greece and the Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE), underscoring its high institutional significance and the elevated level of dialogue that TMEDE (Engineers and Public Works Contractors Fund) promotes in the critical field of sustainable development.
Following last year’s success -which established the conference as an event of international prominence- the Conference returns with an even greater international scope, bringing together representatives of the Government, European institutions, and distinguished speakers from Greece and abroad. Its objective is to outline the strategies that will define infrastructure resilience and the green transition in the decades ahead, integrating climate risk as a pivotal parameter for shaping policies and actions toward a sustainable future.
At a time when climate challenges and natural resource management increasingly and decisively influence everyday life, TMEDE places at the forefront of public debate the formulation of a green development agenda—highlighting crucial issues such as drought, the resilience of critical infrastructure, and modern environmental management. At the core of the discussion, are realistic pathways toward a sustainable economy, the necessity of integrating climate risk into infrastructure planning, strategies for cooperation among the State, the market, and the scientific community, as well as the financial instruments needed to implement the interventions required by this new era.
The Conference will be opened by the Deputy Minister to The Prime Minister & Spokesman of the Hellenic Government Mr. Pavlos Marinakis, who will outline the national perspective on “Redefining the Future Horizons.” The official inauguration will be delivered by the Governor of the Bank of Greece, Mr. Yannis Stournaras, signaling the launch of a two-day high-level dialogue on climate adaptation, financing next-generation resilient infrastructure, and transitioning to a sustainable development model that aligns scientific knowledge with practice and social responsibility.
Government representatives participating include Ministers Christos Dimas, (Minister of Infrastructure & Transport) Takis Theodorikakos,(Minister of Development) Dimitris Papastergiou, (Minister of Digital Governance) Nikos Papathanasis,(Alternate Minister at the Ministry of Economy and Finance) Konstantinos Kyranakis, (Alternate Minister for Transport in Greece) and Nikos Tachiaos,(Deputy Minister of Infrastructure & Transport) contributing interventions on national policies concerning infrastructure, climate adaptation, digital transformation, and investment acceleration. The contribution of local government is also crucial, with the participation of the Mayors of Athens and Thessaloniki, Haris Doukas and Stelios Angeloudis, as well as the Regional Governors of the Peloponnese and Western Macedonia, Dimitris Ptochos and Giorgos Amanatidis.
