Konstantinos Makedos: Through TMEDE Microfinance Solutions, young engineers and freelancers can turn their business plans into reality

The President of Engineers & Public Works Contractors Fund (TMEDE)Konstantinos Makedos, participated in the presentation event of the new Microfinance Fund managed by the Hellenic Development Bank, organised by the Bank of Greece.
The event was attended by the Governor of the Bank of Greece, Yannis Stournaras, the Alternate Minister of National Economy and Finance, Nikos Papathanasis, and the Chief Executive Officer of the Hellenic Development Bank, Ismini Papakyrillou.

TEPIX III Microfinance Fund
The new TEPIX III Microfinance Fund provides financing of up to €25,000, without collateral, addressing a critical financing gap in the market. Co-financing rates reach 60% for general entrepreneurship and 75% for women-led entrepreneurship, offering particularly favourable terms for small-scale business initiatives.
Through its subsidiary, TMEDE Microfinance Solutions, TMEDE has entered into a new partnership with the Hellenic Development Bank to participate in the TEPIX III scheme. This collaboration ensures direct access to attractive financing for young engineers, freelancers and small businesses, with a strong focus on supporting women’s entrepreneurship.

Statements by the President of TMEDE
During the panel discussion that followed—featuring the three companies active in the microfinance sector—Mr Makedos highlighted the broader multiplier effects of the TEPIX III Microfinance Fund on the economy and entrepreneurship.
He outlined the financing opportunities offered by TMEDE Microfinance Solutions to small and very small enterprises within the technical sector, stressing that:
“Strengthening these businesses also serves a national priority: safeguarding infrastructure and ensuring the successful implementation of Recovery and Resilience Facility projects, as well as the restoration works following natural disasters.”
Referring specifically to the performance of TMEDE Microfinance Solutions, Mr Makedos noted that since the launch of its pioneering digital platform in June 2023, the Fund has received 439 applications, approved 355 disbursements, and provided more than €7.4 million in financing to 328 active borrowers.

Strong Early Demand for TEPIX III
He also underlined the strong market response to the new programme, as within just 15 days of the launch of TEPIX III, more than 195 applications were submitted to TMEDE Microfinance Solutions, with the following key characteristics:
  • 39% of eligible applications relate to women’s entrepreneurship
  • 57% originate from regions outside the Attica region
  • 23% concern start-up businesses
  • The average loan amount exceeds €21,000
  • The average loan duration is approximately 76 months

In closing, Mr Makedos invited engineers, young scientists, freelancers and small businesses to take full advantage of the new financing instruments available and, through the innovative digital services of TMEDE Microfinance Solutions, transform their entrepreneurial ideas into viable business ventures.
