EPWCF chairman Konstantinos Makedos stressed at an event at the Technological Educational Institute of Magnesia

The new landscape in the field of civil engineering, following the implementation of Insurance Law 4387/2016, was the subject of an event held on Monday, May 22, 2017, at the auditorium of the Technological Educational Institute of Magnesia, with the speaker the president the Civil Engineering Contractors Engineer Fund and Chairman of the Consultative Committee of Scientists Mr. Konstantinos Makedos.

As Mr. Makedos stressed the degradation of the country’s productive potential, the crisis that has hit the entire technical world is too strong, while we are already in the 8th Memorandum. Today the technical world accounts for 2.2% of the country’s GDP, while it was 9% a decade ago. “So any new increased contributions will exacerbate the existing situation and the ministry will have to see these issues to get to the next day,” Mr Makedos said.

According to him, “the pillar of engineers is necessary for the country to go the next day. Any additional burden on insurance and tax contributions will create a further blow and the real economy will not be able to move in order to move in terms of sustainability into a development path after the end of the assessment. ”

Regarding the possibility of payment of current contributions as well as of past debts to the former EPCPF, Mr. Makedos stressed that out of a total of 67,000 freelance engineers only 50% pay contributions based on the data of the insurance contributions of EPCPF for the 2016. “Unfortunately, we do not have data on the collection of current insurance contributions in 2017 to the new SSSE, so we can draw extra conclusions about the qualitative and actuarial characteristics of our members,” he added.

As he said, there is mobility and vigilance on the part of the Ministry of Labor for debts of up to € 20,000, due to the increase in overdue debts to the EMPA, which now amounts to 32 billion euros for all funds, and an attempt to reintegrate and probate the institutionalization of new up to 100 installments.

Current contributions for those with an income of up to $ 20,000 income are equivalent to old, inelastic – mandatory insurance contributions for zero income from a liberal profession have been greatly reduced, while for income from 30,000 or more they are disproportionately increased, too high and non-contributory .

As far as the Public Works Contractors Civil Engineering Fund is concerned, he said that the transfer of assets from the former EPCPF is expected, so that the fund goes smoothly the next day, defending its development role. At the same time, the first e-services to engineers are underway.
